Refuge al Cedo

Rifugio al Cedo sits at 1560m in the Val Vigezzo, on the border between Ticino and Italy's Verbania region. Reach it from Re in about 2.5 hours on foot, following the valley trail southeast. The hut works as a base for walks into the surrounding hills and as a waypoint on longer ridge traverses across this quieter corner of the southern Alps. The surrounding terrain is less dramatic than higher Alpine zones, but reliable and well-marked.
The refuge holds 19 beds across simple rooms. Meals are available, though you should confirm availability when booking—staff presence can be seasonal. Flush toilets are provided. The hut operates year-round, though winter visits require advance notice. Capacity is tight, especially in summer weekends and during autumn hiking season (September–October).
Book directly with CAI Vigezzo. Contact them several weeks ahead for July and August. The hut is managed by volunteers, so expect rustic conditions and variable opening hours outside peak season. If you plan to arrive in shoulder months or mid-week, email first to confirm someone will be there.
