Refuge Cortin

Rifugio Cortin sits at 1663m in the Ticino Alps, accessible from the Val Verzasca. The approach takes 2–2.5 hours on foot from Sonogno, following a steep trail through mixed forest and alpine meadow. This is a serious walking approach, not a casual stroll. The hut is small and remote, which is precisely why experienced hikers choose it.
The rifugio has 6 beds across basic dormitory accommodation. Meals are simple and hearty—expect pasta, polenta, and local cheese. Water comes from mountain springs. There are no flush toilets; facilities are basic mountain-style. The hut operates year-round but is most reliably staffed June through September. Winter visits are possible but require advance notice. This is a working mountain hut, not a hotel.
Contact the hut directly before visiting—especially outside peak season. The small capacity means it fills quickly during July and August. Book 3–4 months ahead for summer weekends. Half-board (bed and dinner) is standard. Bring cash; card payments are unreliable in this location. The hut sits on excellent routes into the upper Verzasca valleys and makes a logical base for climbers approaching peaks in the southern Ticino range.
