Refuge Murelli

Rifugio Murelli sits at 1200m in the foothills of Ticino, close enough to Lugano for a day trip but deep enough in the valleys to feel remote. The easiest approach is from Moltrasio on the Italian shore of Lake Como—allow 2.5 to 3 hours on foot to reach the hut. Alternative routes exist from surrounding villages if you're linking longer trails through the region. The hut works as a base for exploring the lower Alpine terrain between the lake and higher peaks inland.
The refuge holds 24 beds across simple rooms. Meals are available—book ahead to ensure dinner is prepared. Hot showers are on-site. The hut operates year-round, though facilities are more limited in winter months. Staff can advise on day hikes and loop routes in the surrounding valleys, many of which take 4 to 6 hours round-trip.
