Sidelenhütte

Sidelenhütte sits at 2,708m on the border between Ticino and Uri, accessed via the Gotthard massif. From Hospental (Uri side), allow 3.5 hours to reach the hut over steep terrain and scree. The approach from Airolo (Ticino side) takes around 4 hours and is less direct. Both routes are well-marked but exposed to afternoon weather—start early. The hut marks a key waypoint on longer traverses linking Gotthard passes.
Sidelenhütte operates as a SAC hut with 34 beds across multiple rooms. Hot meals are served daily during the season; the kitchen caters to omnivores and vegetarians. Drinking water comes from a reliable spring. The hut is basic and unheated—bring a sleeping bag rated for alpine conditions, even in summer. Toilet facilities are standard mountain standard. The hut operates June to September, weather permitting; confirm opening dates before visiting.
Book directly by email or phone at least 2–3 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. June and September are quieter. The hut fills quickly on clear-weather weekends when traversing parties converge. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure your bed and participate in communal dinner. Phone ahead if you're arriving after 5pm.
