Alp Hohbiel

Alp Hohbiel sits at 1,673m in the Uri region, above the village of Spiringen. The standard approach takes 2 hours from Spiringen (784m), climbing steadily through forest on a well-marked path. You can also reach it in 1.5 hours from Brügg on the Göschenen–Spiringen road. The location works well as a base for day hikes into the surrounding limestone terrain, or as a transit point on longer routes through the Uri Alps.

This is a working alpine dairy farm offering bed spaces and simple meals to hikers. The hut has dormitory accommodation and basic facilities typical of rural alpine operations. Meals focus on regional specialities and cheese made on-site. The alp operates seasonally from late spring through early autumn, with the exact opening dates dependent on snow cover and pasture conditions. Phone ahead to confirm current opening status, especially during shoulder seasons.

Book directly with the hut to confirm availability and meal options. June to September is busiest, particularly weekends. The hut fills quickly during school holidays in the Uri and central Swiss cantons, so reserve at least 2–3 weeks ahead for these periods. Arrive by mid-afternoon for dinner. The setting is pastoral rather than high-alpine, making it suitable for families and less experienced hikers.
