Gitschenhörelihütte

Gitschenhörelihütte sits at 2,325m in the Uri Alps, in the high pasture country above Göschenen. Reach it via a steep trail from Göschenen village (570m), a 3.5-hour push with 1,755m of elevation gain. The route climbs through forest and alpine meadow, eventually reaching the hut's exposed location on the ridge. In descent, most hikers prefer the longer but less punishing route via Kehralp. This is a working location tied to the surrounding terrain—come prepared for weather and crowds to be real.
The hut holds 15 beds across simple dormitory rooms. It has a self-catering kitchen where you cook your own meals, and reliable drinking water on tap. The SAC-affiliated hut runs summer season (roughly June to October depending on snow). Expect basic mountain hut accommodation—functional, not luxurious. Winter access is not reliable. The hut works best as part of a multi-day route through the Uri Alps rather than a destination hut.
Phone the hut directly to check availability and book your bed. Call before you climb—turning back because beds are full is a grim end to a long day. July and August fill fast; book at least 4-6 weeks ahead for these months. Shoulder seasons (June, September, early October) are less crowded. Summer weekends are busy; weekday slots are easier to secure. Confirm opening dates and condition before committing to the approach.
