Berggasthaus Bannalpsee

Berggasthaus Bannalpsee sits at 1610m on the shores of Bannalpsee, a small alpine lake in Uri. Reach it from Göschenen (on the Gotthard rail line) by hiking 2 hours up the Göschenen Reuss valley. The trail is well-marked and gains 900m steadily through forest and alpine meadow. Most parties approach via the Göschenen–Rophaien–Bannalpsee route. The hut sits in open terrain with the lake directly accessible from the building, making it a solid basecamp for day hikes into the Uri Alps.
The hut is managed as a simple guesthouse with beds for around 30 guests. It serves hot meals at lunch and dinner, with hearty Swiss mountain fare; book ahead if you want to eat. Water comes from the lake and spring sources. Facilities are basic but functional: dormitory and some double rooms, a communal dining area, and outdoor seating. The hut is typically open May through October, though confirm dates before traveling.
Book directly by phone or email in high season (July–August). Weekends fill quickly June through September, so aim to reserve at least 1–2 weeks ahead. The hut can accommodate walk-ins on quieter days, but don't rely on finding beds in peak season. Winter access is feasible for experienced parties with winter kit, though the hut may not be staffed—check conditions locally first.
