Cabin de Chanrion

Cabane de Chanrion sits at 2462m in the Val d'Entremont, deep in the Valais Alps. You reach it from Praz-de-Fort (a 45-minute drive from Le Châble) by hiking 3.5 hours up the valley. The route follows the Dranse stream through open terrain with few technical sections. Most hikers start early from the village to arrive by mid-afternoon. The hut marks the entry point to serious high-altitude touring and sits within reach of peaks above 3500m.
The hut manages 55 beds across multiple rooms. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast; you can order packed lunches. Drinking water comes from the stream. WiFi is available, which is unusual for a hut at this elevation and useful for checking weather forecasts before committing to high passes. The hut operates year-round but expect reduced services in winter. The SAC/CAS manages the facility.
Book directly by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. June, September and early October fill quickly too if the weather is good. Winter bookings require advance confirmation since staffing varies. The hut is popular with alpinists heading to Mont-Blanc massif routes and skiers using it as a base for spring touring. Arrive with food if you have dietary needs — the kitchen caters to groups but has limited flexibility for individual requests.
