Refuge Crête Sèche

Refuge Crête Sèche sits at 2,391m on the border between the Aosta Valley and Piedmont. Reach it from the village of Ceresole Reale (1,570m) via a marked trail through alpine meadows and rocky terrain. The approach takes 4–5 hours depending on fitness and conditions. The hut is accessible year-round in summer and autumn; snow and ice make winter approaches technical and should only be attempted with proper experience.

The refuge has 86 beds across multiple rooms and serves as a solid base for hikes in the Gran Paradiso massif and surrounding peaks. Meals are prepared daily—book in advance if you want dinner or packed lunches. The hut has running water, heating, and basic shower facilities. WiFi is not available. The CAI Val d'Aosta manages the hut and maintains the surrounding trails. Opening dates vary; confirm availability before departure, particularly outside July and August.

Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 2–3 weeks ahead, especially for weekends and the July–August peak season. Groups larger than 8 should contact the manager well in advance. Payment is cash preferred, though card payments may be accepted—confirm when booking. The hut fills quickly during August, so plan accordingly.
