About

Cabane de la Dent Blanche sits at 3507m on the Col de la Dent Blanche in the Valais Alps. Most climbers approach from Evolène via the Ferpècle Glacier, a 5–6 hour hike that gains 1500m. The route crosses steep, exposed terrain and requires scrambling skills. Snow and ice are present from November through June. Alternative approaches exist from the Italian side, but the Swiss route is more commonly used.

The CAS hut holds 35 beds in mixed dormitories. The guardian serves evening meals and breakfast. Drinking water is available from a meltwater stream nearby. There is no self-catering kitchen. The hut operates year-round, though winter access is serious mountaineering terrain and requires experience with avalanche assessment and glacier travel. Summer months (July–September) see the heaviest traffic from climbers attempting Dent Blanche (4357m) and Gran Gendarme (4262m).

Book by phone or email at least 2–3 weeks ahead for July and August. During these months, the hut often fills completely. June and September offer better availability. Bring your own sleeping bag and towel. Water collection requires care near the glacier; the meltwater stream is the safest source. The hut lies on the SAC Alpine Pass scheme, so members receive discounts. This is a working mountaineer's hut: expect a functional environment, not luxury.
