About

Cabane de Moiry sits at 2,825m in the Moiry Valley, above the village of Grimentz in Valais. Most hikers approach from Grimentz (1,537m) via the Moiry Glacier trail, a 4–5 hour ascent with steady elevation gain. The route follows the valley floor then climbs steeply across moraine and scree to the hut. In winter, this approach is avalanche terrain and requires mountaineering experience. Alternative access exists from Zinal via Col de Sorebois, which takes 3–4 hours but involves scrambling.
The hut has 96 beds across multiple dormitories and is managed by SAC (Swiss Alpine Club). It serves hot meals at lunch and dinner, or you can use the self-catering kitchen with your own provisions. Drinking water is reliable. The hut operates year-round but facilities and services are limited during winter—check conditions before planning a winter visit. Mountaineers use Cabane de Moiry as a base for ski touring and climbing in the region, including access to peaks above 3,500m on the Monte Rosa massif.
Book 3–4 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut by email or phone to reserve beds and confirm meal availability. Weekday visits outside summer school holidays are easier to arrange. Half-board (bed and two meals) is standard, though you can arrange accommodation-only rates if you prefer self-catering.
