Col de la Dent Blanche CAS Bivouac
1.0About
This is a small SAC bivouac with 15 beds spread across two rooms. Expect basic conditions: a wood stove for heat, no self-catering kitchen, and water from snowmelt or a nearby stream. The hut provides blankets and mattresses. Meals are not served; bring your own food and a camping stove if you need hot water. The hut opens June through September, depending on snow conditions. It's used mainly as a base for climbing Dent Blanche (4357m) or crossing the Tête Blanche glacier to reach other peaks.
Book well ahead for July and August, especially weekends. Email the SAC directly to check availability and current access conditions—the col is often snow-covered or iced until mid-June. Bring a headtorch, rope, crampons, and an ice axe. Water and fuel are scarce; plan accordingly. The hut is unguarded; you'll need your own key, which the SAC provides on booking.
