Cabin de Prarochet

Cabane de Prarochet sits at 2,555m in the Valais Alps, serving hikers on routes linking the Mont-Blanc and Gran Paradiso regions. Reach it from Le Châble (1,712m) in 4 hours via the Plateau du Couloir and Col de Prarochet. Most parties approach from Verbier side via Col de la Loze (2,002m) in 3.5 hours. The final section climbs steeply through scree and boulder fields. Snow can block the route until late June; check conditions before going.

The hut has 44 beds across multiple rooms and serves evening meals and breakfast. Drinking water is available on-site. This is a functional alpine hut, not a luxury refuge. The guardian manages a basic but reliable operation. Summer season runs from mid-June through September, though opening dates depend on snow clearance. The hut closes in winter.

Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard. Bring cash in Swiss francs or check what payment methods they accept when you call. The hut sits on the high route between two major ski resort valleys, so expect other hikers on weekends during July–August.
