Cabin de Sorniot

Cabane de Sorniot sits at 2,064m on the north face of Mont-Blanc du Tacul, in the Valais region. Access is typically from Chamonix via the Mer de Glace. Most parties approach from the Montenvers railway station, then traverse the glacier for 2–3 hours to reach the hut. This route requires glacier travel experience and proper equipment. Alternatively, approach from Vallorcine via the Glacier du Tour, which takes 4–5 hours. Both routes demand competent mountaineering skills and awareness of crevasse hazard.
The hut has 46 beds across multiple dormitory rooms. Meals are served daily; the kitchen also provides self-catering facilities for those bringing their own food. Drinking water is available. The hut operates year-round, though winter access is substantially more technical. Summer (June–September) is the main season for trekking parties; winter draws climbers preparing for Mont-Blanc ascents and ice climbing objectives on the adjacent faces.
Book directly by email or phone. Contact the hut early for July and August, when demand is high and beds fill 8–10 weeks in advance. Shoulder seasons (June and September) offer more flexibility. Confirm glacier conditions before arrival, especially in spring and early summer when crevassing may be hazardous. The hut operates on UTC+1 (CET); account for this when calling from outside Switzerland.
