Cabin du Trient

Cabane du Trient sits at 3,170m on the border between Switzerland and France, in the Valais region above the Trient Valley. Most hikers reach it from Le Châble in 4–5 hours via the Alpe de Sonadon and Plateau du Trient. The approach is non-technical but gains 1,300m elevation. In winter and early spring, snow and crevasses demand experience and proper equipment. From the hut, routes branch to Mont-Blanc, the Aiguilles du Trient, and Mont Blanc du Tacul.
The hut has 90 beds across multiple rooms and serves dinner and breakfast. A self-catering kitchen is available if you prefer to cook. Water is piped directly from the glacier. The warden can advise on snow conditions and route options. The hut operates year-round but expect reduced staffing and cold conditions outside July–September. Mobile signal is unreliable; bring a headtorch and expect basic comfort.
Book 8–10 weeks ahead for July and August. Contact the hut directly by email or phone to reserve. Weekends fill faster than weekdays. If you plan to arrive without advance notice, call ahead to confirm the warden is present and beds are available. Winter ascents require careful planning with the hut staff regarding crevasse conditions on the approaches.
