Cabin Eugenio Sella

Capanna Eugenio Sella sits at 3,029m on the north face of Monte Rosa, accessible from Macugnaga in the Valais. Reach it via the Paglera Glacier approach—allow 4–5 hours from Rifugio Zamboni-Zappa (2,065m). The route crosses glacier terrain and requires basic mountaineering skills; rope and crampons are essential in most conditions. Snow and rockfall are hazards outside summer. Experienced parties can also approach from the east via Colle d'Olen in 3–4 hours, but glacier travel remains unavoidable.
The hut holds 30 beds split between shared dormitories and 2 private rooms. It operates year-round but staffing and services depend on season—expect full meals and hot water in summer, basic provisions and heating-only in winter. Water comes from snowmelt; fuel availability varies. The CAI section manages it with minimal amenities; expect alpine hut standards, not hotel comfort. The location serves mountaineers targeting Monte Rosa's north face and climbers on the Macugnaga normal route.

Summer weekends fill quickly; book 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. Half-board and full-board are standard. Bring your own sleeping bag and mat.
