Driesthütte

Driesthütte sits at 2181m in the Valais region, accessed via the Ferden valley. The approach from Ferden village takes roughly 2 hours on a well-marked trail through Alpine meadows and larch forest. This is a straightforward hike, not a scramble. The hut serves as a base for traverses across the Wildstrubel massif and approaches to peaks in the surrounding limestone terrain.

The hut offers basic dormitory accommodation with flush toilets and a small kitchen. There are no showers. The guardian serves meals and drinks—book your evening meal when you arrive, as cooking is limited. The hut operates year-round but receives heaviest use from June through September. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk, so confirm conditions before heading up in cold months. Capacity is modest, typically 20-30 beds across several rooms.

July and August are busy; aim to arrive early in the day to secure a bed or book 3-4 weeks ahead during peak season. The hut sits between day-hiker territory and serious mountaineering objectives, so it fills quickly on weekends year-round. Spring conditions (April-May) can be excellent for longer stays with fewer people.
