Refuge de L'Envers des Aiguilles

Refuge de L'Envers des Aiguilles sits at 2,493m on the north side of Mont-Blanc massif, accessed from the Chamonix valley. The standard approach takes 4 hours from Le Tour village via the Glacier du Tour and moraine path. The route gains 1,100m elevation and crosses glacier terrain—rope not required but crampons are essential in spring and early summer. Winter access is difficult and requires mountaineering skills.
The refuge is managed by FFCAM and holds 68 beds in mixed dormitories. Meals are served daily: hearty evening dinners and packed lunches available on request. Hot showers and a small bar operate during the season. The hut opens mid-June through late September, with staffing dependent on snow conditions in early summer. Water comes from snowmelt; the location is exposed and weather can change rapidly.
Phone ahead to confirm opening dates and book beds, especially for July and August when the hut fills 4-6 weeks before arrival. Arrive in the afternoon to settle in before dinner service. The FFCAM requires membership or an international Alpine Club card—check eligibility before travel. Drying facilities are basic, so pack a lightweight towel.
