Refuge Alpe il Laghetto

Rifugio Alpe il Laghetto sits at 2,039m in the Valais Alps, accessible from multiple valleys in the region. The hut lies on established hiking routes that connect the lower valleys to higher alpine terrain. Most parties approach from the south via the Valle d'Aosta, with access typically taking 3–4 hours from the nearest trailhead. Winter access is limited and requires mountaineering skills.
The refuge accommodates around 40 people in mixed dormitories and a few smaller rooms. The CAI (Italian Alpine Club) manages the hut, providing half-board meals with emphasis on simple, hearty food. Water comes from the adjacent lake. The hut operates year-round, though winter conditions are severe and the facility operates on reduced capacity outside the main season. A solar system and gas heating provide basic services.
Book directly with the CAI Somma Lombarda or the Arsago Seprio subsection. July and August fill quickly; aim to book 4–6 weeks ahead for these months. Spring and autumn offer quieter alternatives. The hut sits on the border region between Switzerland and Italy, so verify current access conditions before travelling, particularly in winter or after heavy snow.
