Refuge Guide D'Ayas

Rifugio Guide D'Ayas sits at 3,388m in the Valais Alps, directly on the Monte Rosa massif. You reach it from Champoluc in the Ayas Valley via the Passo di Puerta (2,571m). The approach takes 4 hours from Champoluc, gaining 800m on a well-marked path through alpine meadows and scree. In winter the route requires mountaineering skills. The hut serves as a base for climbing Parrot Peak (4,020m) and Castore (4,228m), two straightforward rock scrambles on the Monte Rosa range.
The refuge holds 85 beds across several dormitories. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is available nightly, with packed lunches prepared on request. The kitchen caters to high-altitude diet needs without frills. Water comes from snowmelt and mountain springs. The hut runs year-round but is busiest June through September. Winter access requires mountaineering experience and a guide. Conditions above 3,200m are serious: weather changes rapidly, and rescue is slow.

The refuge prefers phone calls to email for bookings. Arrive on strong legs: this elevation demands acclimatization if you're coming from the valley the same day.
