Refuge Guide del Cervino

Rifugio Guide del Cervino sits at 3480m on the Italian side of the Matterhorn massif, in Valais. The hut serves climbers and mountaineers heading for Matterhorn ascents and traverses across the Monte Rosa range. Access is from Breuil-Cervinia via the Cresta di Breithorn trail, a 4–5 hour hike gaining around 800m. Most parties approach via Italy rather than Switzerland; the approach from Zermatt is longer and less direct. Winter access is unreliable at this elevation.
The hut has capacity for around 80 guests across shared dormitory rooms. Meals are hearty and geared toward fuel for high-altitude climbing: expect three courses at dinner plus packed lunches. The kitchen caters to dietary requirements if you notify them in advance. Hot showers are available but use bottled water. The hut opens mid-June through September, closing during poor weather. Guided Matterhorn ascents can be arranged through the hut staff or external mountain guides.
Book directly by email or phone as soon as your dates are confirmed. July and August require 2–3 weeks' notice minimum; aim for 1 month ahead if possible. June and early September are less crowded. The hut is popular with guided groups, particularly on weekends. Confirm your arrival time when you book, since the last water source is below the hut and rescues are difficult in bad visibility.
