Refuge Guide di Frachey

Rifugio Guide di Frachey stands at 2,072m in the Gran Paradiso massif, on the border between Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont. The standard approach comes from Pont in the Valsavarenche valley, a 2.5-hour hike gaining 600m through open alpine terrain. You can also approach from Cogne via the Colle di Lauson (3.5 hours), which offers a longer but less steep route. The hut serves as a base for accessing the Gran Paradiso peaks and crossing passes into surrounding valleys.
The refuge holds 40 beds across mixed dormitories. Meals are available at lunch and dinner, with half-board packages the standard arrangement. Hot showers and basic heating are provided. The hut operates year-round but expect reduced services and advance booking requirements in winter months. It's managed by experienced mountain guides, so staff can advise on route conditions and ascents in the area.
Book directly by email or phone as early as possible for July and August—these months fill 2-3 weeks ahead. June, September, and October are quieter but still require booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance. Winter visits (November to April) demand much earlier coordination due to limited staffing and variable access conditions. Outside peak season, phone contact is more reliable than email.
