Refuge Oratorio di Cuney

Rifugio Oratorio di Cuney stands at 2,655m in the Val d'Aosta, on the Italian side of the Monte Rosa massif. Approach from Gressoney-Saint-Jean via the Gressoney valley. The standard route takes 3–4 hours uphill. Alternatively, access from Alagna Valsesia in the Walser valley, which takes 2.5–3 hours. Both approaches follow well-marked paths suitable for fit day-hikers. The refuge sits on the Col d'Olen pass, making it a natural waypoint on the Monte Rosa traverse.
The refuge offers 32 beds in mixed dormitories. Full board (breakfast and dinner) is available, with packed lunches on request. The kitchen provides simple, hearty meals typical of mountain refugios. Water comes from natural sources. The hut operates year-round but expect reduced service outside summer months (July–September). There are no showers. Toilets are basic. Mobile reception is patchy; bring a map and compass.
Book direct by email or phone, especially in July and August when the hut fills quickly. Aim to reserve at least 4–6 weeks ahead for summer weekends. Outside peak season (May–June, September–October), booking 2 weeks ahead is usually sufficient. Confirm your arrival time when you book.
