About

Abri du Grand Remblai sits at 2,515m in the Valais Alps, on the traverse between Verbier and the Mont-Fort area. Reach it in 2.5 hours from Verbier by hiking southeast past Lac de Louvie. The approach is well-marked and gains 900m steadily through alpine meadows and scree. Most parties use it as a waypoint on the classic Chamonix-Zermatt haute route or on day hikes exploring the ridges above Verbier. Winter access requires ski touring skills and avalanche assessment.

The refuge is a small alpine hut offering 20 beds in basic dormitory accommodation. The guardian runs a simple kitchen with dinner and breakfast available; bring your own lunch or ask the guardian to prepare packed meals. Water comes from snowmelt and mountain springs. The hut has a wood stove for heating and basic toilet facilities outside. Open from June through September, weather-dependent. Verify opening dates before your visit as spring snow conditions can delay the opening.

Book directly with the guardian by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead for summer weekends. July and August fill quickly; book 4–6 weeks ahead if visiting then. The hut rarely turns people away mid-week. Payment is cash only. Approach this hut as a working shelter rather than a comfortable base camp—it rewards self-sufficient, practical mountaineers.
