Cabin de Bois Gentil

Cabin de Bois Gentil sits at 1,377m in the Jura Mountains, accessible from the village of Sainte-Croix via a 2.5-hour hike through mixed forest and meadow. The approach is straightforward and well-marked, making it a solid option for a short alpine weekend. The hut serves as a base for exploring the gentler terrain of the northern Swiss Alps, with day hikes to nearby peaks and ridge walks across the plateau.

The SAC-managed hut provides 40 beds across several dormitory rooms. Hot meals are served to guests, and the kitchen can accommodate self-catering if you bring your own food. Facilities include running water and heating. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and may require snowshoes. Winter reservations are essential as numbers drop and reliability matters when weather turns.

Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for weekends, especially May through October. July and August demand advance planning—book 6–8 weeks out for reliable bed availability. The hut fills quickly on long weekends and during school holidays.
