Refuge de Bise

Refuge de Bise sits at 1498m in the Vaud Alps, a working base for hiking in the limestone terrain around the Jura-Alps transition zone. Access from Leysin takes 2.5 hours on foot; from Les Diablerets allow 3 hours. The hut works well as a waypoint on longer routes through the region, particularly if you're linking valleys or exploring the Chaîne du Reuenberg.
The refuge holds 44 beds across mixed dormitories. Meals are served daily when staffed. The kitchen provides standard hut fare—expect hearty soups, pasta, and local cheese. Water is reliable. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow and weather; contact ahead for winter stays. Facilities are basic: no shower, but washing water is available. The hut is unmotorised and quiet—a genuine working alpine space, not a tourist facility.
Book direct by email or phone for weekend stays, especially June to September. Book at least 2 weeks ahead for peak season. July and August see steady traffic from Leysin-based hikers, but the hut rarely fills completely because it sits between the busier 2000m+ peaks. Winter bookings require advance notice and commitment—road access is unreliable. Confirm opening status before winter visits. The hut sits on SAC trail networks, so expect a mix of day-hikers and overnight trekkers.
