Refuge de la Dent D'Oche

Refuge de la Dent d'Oche sits at 2,114m on the border between Vaud and Valais, commanding views across the Rhone Valley and toward Mont-Blanc. Reach it from Le Bouveret on the Rhone in 4 hours, or from Champéry in the Portes du Soleil in 3.5 hours. Both routes are straightforward summer hikes on marked trails. The hut makes a solid base for day trips to Dent d'Oche (2,262m) or as a stage on longer traverses through the lower Vaud Alps.
The refuge runs 60 beds across dormitories and three private rooms. Meals are available—book these when you reserve—and the kitchen can handle most dietary needs if you mention them in advance. There's no shower facility, so plan accordingly. Water is plentiful. The hut operates year-round but staffing and service are limited November through March, so contact ahead if you're planning a winter visit. The season is busiest July and August.
Book direct by email or phone at least two weeks ahead for weekends and one month ahead for July and August. The hut fills quickly on clear weather weekends in summer. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a good spot if you haven't reserved beds—space gets tight when groups turn up unannounced.
