Murauer Hut

Murauer Hütte sits at 1583m in the Nockberge range in Carinthia. Reach it from Murau village via the Stolzalpe route. The hike takes 3 to 3.5 hours from the valley and gains 900m steadily through forest and alpine meadow. The final approach opens into a broad plateau landscape typical of this limestone range. The hut is well-placed for ridge walks and circular routes across the Nockberge.

The hut has 50 beds in mixed and private rooms. Meals follow standard Austrian hut fare—hearty dinners, packed lunches, and coffee with strudel. Water comes from a reliable spring. The hut runs from May through October, with weekends open outside these months by arrangement. It caters equally to overnight guests and day hikers coming off longer mountain routes. The OeAV Sektion Murau manages the property and maintains high standards despite its remote position.

Book by phone well ahead for July and August weekends. The hut fills quickly during school holidays. June, September, and early October see far fewer visitors and offer better conditions for longer ridge traverses.
