Lucknerhütte
3.4About
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and has capacity for around 50 people across mixed dormitory rooms. It serves substantial evening meals and hearty breakfasts; bring euros in cash as card payments are unreliable at this elevation. Flush toilets are available, but showers are cold water only. There is no WiFi. Open from late spring through mid-October, the hut closes earlier if snow arrives. It functions as a base for ridge walking toward the Grossglockner group and for day hikes around the surrounding 2,800m peaks.
Book at least 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone (gaps in cell reception are common, so call early in the day) or email through the OeAV website. Solo hikers and small groups often find availability mid-week and in shoulder seasons. Expect crowding during mid-summer weeks and any spell of fine weather in June and September.
