About
Stüdlhütte sits at 2,802m in the Pustertal valley of East Tyrol, surrounded by the Rieserferner and Defereggen ranges. Reach it from the village of Stüden in about 3 hours on foot via a well-marked trail. The approach gains 800m steadily through alpine meadow and scree. You can also approach from Bozen via the Pfitsch valley, which adds another hour but offers different terrain. Most climbers use this hut as a base for peaks in the 3,200–3,500m range, including Großvenediger (3,674m) and the surrounding Zillertal Alps.
The DAV-managed hut holds 122 beds across multiple rooms. It serves three daily meals—dinners are substantial, breakfasts include bread, cheese and cold cuts, packed lunches are available on request. The kitchen supplies hot water for tea and instant meals. Showers and flush toilets function year-round. There is no WiFi. The hut opens from mid-June through mid-September. Winter access is possible for experienced mountaineers with proper equipment, though services are limited.
Book directly by phone with the hut well ahead, especially for July and August weekends when it fills quickly. Single nights are possible outside peak season, but plan for 2–3 weeks' notice in summer. The hut is a standard DAV mountain refuge—functional, not luxurious. Bring a torch, warm layers, and expect basic comfort.
