Traisner Hut

Traisner Hütte sits at 1,309m in the Höllental valley, a limestone gorge south of Traisen in Lower Austria. The standard approach climbs 2 hours from Traisen village (650m), following the Traisen stream through the gorge. The Naturfreunde Traisen maintains a well-marked route that gains 660m steadily but never steeply. Fit hikers cover this in 90 minutes. From the hut, you can push higher into the Kahlenberg massif or link to other Naturfreunde huts across the Niederösterreichisches Alpenvorland.
Traisner Hütte operates as a simple base for day walking and ridge traverses in the limestone foothills. The hut holds around 30 beds across basic dormitory rooms. Kitchen facilities allow self-catering, and the warden cooks meals on weekends and school holidays. Water comes from the stream. Toilets are outside. The season runs year-round, though winter access depends on snow and avalanche conditions in the gorge. Expect minimal facilities—this is a working Naturfreunde hut, not a commercial operation.

Weekend and holiday periods fill quickly, especially in autumn. Weekday visits in summer rarely need advance notice.
