Brandstatthütte

The Brandstatthütte sits at 1,532m in the Loferer and Leoganger Limestone Alps, a 2-hour walk south of Lofer village in Salzburg. Access starts from the Lofer valley floor near the town of Lofer itself. The main approach follows a well-marked forest trail that gains 600m elevation through beech woodland, opening to alpine meadow in the final section. The hut serves as a base for ridge walks across the Loferers, notably the traverse towards Hochmiesing (2,092m) to the south. Summer hikers use it for day routes into the limestone peaks; winter access is limited or closed depending on snow conditions.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and holds 50 beds across shared dorms. Meals focus on substantial Austrian fare—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and strudel. The kitchen provides packed lunches on request. Water comes from a spring on-site. Showers are basic but functional. The hut opens year-round, though staffing and heating are limited outside the main season (May to October). A small shop stocks basic supplies and energy food.
