Molteraualm

Molteraualm sits at 1,520m in the Pinzgau region south of Zell am See. Reach it from the Zell am See valley via the Moelteraualm trail, a steady 2-hour ascent through mixed forest. The hut works well as a day-trip destination from the valley or as a base for longer ridge walks toward Hochkönig. Summer hiking and autumn walks are the main seasons here.

The hut is a traditional working alpine dairy farm, not a mountain inn in the formal sense. It operates seasonally from June through September, offering simple refreshments and basic accommodation. The atmosphere is intimate and working-class—expect home cooking rather than restaurant service. Facilities are basic but clean. Capacity is small, typically under 20 beds. The hut closes in winter. This is a place to stop for a drink and snack during a day hike rather than a destination hut for multi-day trips, though overnight stays are possible.
