The Buchauhütte sits at 1,574m in the Salzburg Alps, accessed via the Buchau valley south of Golling an der Salzach. The standard approach takes 2 hours 30 minutes from the village of Golling, following the Salzach stream and then the Buchauer Bach into increasingly narrow terrain. The final section climbs steeply through forest before opening into alpine meadow. Summer hikers also reach the hut from the Torstein area via the Tor saddle in 2 hours 45 minutes.
