Ebenhandlhütte

Ebenhandlhütte sits at 1,652m on the Ebenhandlalm in the Pinzgau region south of Zell am See. Reach it from the village of Zell am See in about 3.5 hours. The standard approach follows the Zeller Ache valley via Zellrain, climbing steadily through mixed forest before opening onto alpine meadows near the hut. Alternative access comes from Schüttdorf (2 hours) or Bramberg (4 hours). The hut is well-positioned for day walks across the Ebenhandlalm plateau and makes a logical overnight stop on longer traverses toward the Wildseeloder or toward huts in the Kitzbühel Alps.
The hut is managed by the Salzburg section of the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and offers 46 beds across mixed dormitories and a small number of double rooms. Meals are available daily—expect traditional Austrian Alpine fare. Hot showers and toilets are standard. The hut operates year-round but sees limited traffic in winter; confirm opening dates before visiting outside peak season. The surrounding meadows offer gentle hiking suitable for families as well as connections to more technical routes.
Book beds directly with the hut, especially for weekends and July–August when the Pinzgau attracts steady hiker traffic. Email or phone at least 2 weeks ahead during summer. Mid-week visits are more likely to find space. The hut is popular with locals using it as a weekend destination, so expect busier periods on Saturdays and Sundays.
