The Holzerhütte sits at 1,910m in the Berchtesgaden Alps southeast of Salzburg. Reach it via the village of Anif, then the Gaisberg valley. From Anif village the walk takes 2.5 hours; most hikers start from the Gaisbergalm car park (1,300m), cutting it to 1.5 hours. The trail climbs steadily through forest then opens onto Alpine meadows with views toward the Göll massif. The hut serves as a base for day walks to the Stanserhorn (2,286m) and Hochstaff (2,161m), or as a stopping point on longer routes through the northern limestone ranges.
The hut has 45 beds across mixed dormitories and a few doubles. Meals are substantial: expect schnitzel, spätzle, Kasnocken, and fresh breads. Half-board rates are reasonable.
