Eggeralm

Eggeralm sits at 1,645m in the Tennengebirge, reached from Hallein via the Hallein valley and Ramsau. The standard approach takes 2 hours uphill from the car park at Ramsau, following well-marked trails through mixed forest. In winter, the road to Ramsau may close, but the hut remains accessible. The location works as both a destination hike and a waypoint on longer routes crossing the limestone massif.
The hut holds 60 beds across simple double and multi-bed rooms. Meals are basic Austrian fare—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and regional cheeses. The kitchen provides hot water for your own supplies. Water comes from the mountain spring. The hut operates year-round, though February sees fewer guests. Phone ahead in winter to confirm opening after heavy snow. The OeAV manages the hut to standard Alpine Club standards.
Book directly by phone, especially for weekends and the July-August peak. Groups of 8+ should contact 3–4 weeks ahead. Solo hikers and pairs can usually find space without advance notice except during Austrian school holidays (late July) and long weekends. The hut fills quickly on Saturdays during summer and autumn.
