Goggauwirthütte

The Goggauwirthütte sits at 1,519m in the Salzburg Alps, roughly 20km south of Salzburg city. Reach it from the village of Elsbethen via the Götsching hiking trail—allow 2.5 hours. The hut is also accessible from Anif (1.5 hours) or from higher trailheads if you're linking longer ridge walks. The approach is straightforward forest hiking with steady elevation gain.

This is a working dairy farm with hut facilities run by the OeAV. The hut sleeps around 40 people in dormitory and a few private rooms. Meals focus on traditional Austrian alpine fare, with hearty soups, schnitzel, and local cheeses available. The hut operates year-round, though summer and weekends fill quickly. Facilities include a main dining room, basic shower facilities, and a small bar. Water and electricity are available. The setting works well for day hikers from Salzburg, families, and anyone wanting accessible alpine terrain without committing to high-altitude huts.

Book directly by phone with the hut (details available via OeAV website). July and August weekends and Austrian school holidays book solid 4-6 weeks ahead. If you're planning a weekend visit in summer, call by the previous Wednesday. Weekdays in shoulder seasons (May, June, September) are far more relaxed. The hut prefers advance notice for groups of 8+. Don't rely on walk-ins during peak season.
