About
The Groyerhütte sits at 2,272m in the Hohe Tauern, on the eastern edge of the Salzburg Alps. Reach it from Dienten am Pass (1,072m) in roughly 4 hours via the Kreuzbachalm route. The path climbs steadily through forest and alpine meadow, gaining 1,200m. From the Dienten car park, follow marked trail 407 to Kreuzbachalm, then continue south on trail 407B to the hut. Winter snow blocks access between November and May, so plan visits for June through October.
The hut offers 90 beds in mixed and private rooms. Half-board is standard: expect hearty Austrian fare including schnitzel, stew, and vegetarian options. The kitchen prepares packed lunches for onward hiking. Facilities include toilets and washbasins with cold water only—bring a headtorch for the corridor. The bar operates until 21:00. The OeAV-managed hut opens late May to mid-October and hosts groups year-round with prior arrangement.
Book directly with the hut from mid-April onwards. July and August fill 6-8 weeks ahead, so reserve by mid-June for summer. Shoulder months (June, September, October) offer better availability. The hut accepts phone bookings; email confirmations follow within 2 days. Overnight stays cost €35–50 depending on room type and season. Payment is cash only.
