Klingelbergalm

Klingelbergalm sits at 1,474m in the Berchtesgaden Alps south of Salzburg, on the Austrian side of the German border. The hut is reached via the Königssee valley approach from Schönau am Königssee, or from Ramsau an der Ache on the Austrian side. Most hikers approach from Austria, heading south from Ramsau. The walk from Ramsau to the hut takes roughly 2.5 hours on a clear path through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The route gains about 600m but moves at a steady, manageable gradient.
Klingelbergalm operates as a working alpine dairy farm and simple mountain hut. The kitchen serves hearty traditional food—käsespätzle, bosna, beef stew—made fresh daily. Capacity is modest at around 30 beds, mostly in small dormitory rooms. There's no shower, but a hand-washing area exists. The hut sits on the main hiking trail connecting the Ramsau area to the Lahnental valley, so it functions well as a mid-route stop on longer traverses. Open May through October depending on snow conditions.
Book ahead during July and August, especially weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone—most Austrian hut keepers prefer phone calls over email. The hut is managed locally and not part of a larger booking system. Expect cash payment; card facilities are unreliable in this remote location. June and September offer quieter visits with good conditions and reliable alpine flora.
