Kreealm Bichlhütte

The Kreealm Bichlhütte sits at 1,570m on the Kreealm plateau in the Salzburg Alps, roughly 15km south of Salzburg. Reach it from the village of Elsbethen by hiking the Kreealm trail—allow 2.5 to 3 hours for the steady ascent through forest and alpine pasture. The hut is also accessible from Anif or via the longer approach from the Fürstenbrunn valley. From here you can extend into day walks across the plateau or link to trails toward the Gaisberg (1,287m) and surrounding ridges.
The hut operates year-round and offers simple, traditional Austrian hospitality. Expect around 80 beds across dormitory and double rooms. The kitchen serves regional food; book meals ahead, especially at weekends. There's no shower—wash facilities are basic, which keeps costs and water use low. Phone signal is poor. The hut is popular with local hikers from Salzburg, so it fills quickly on fine weather weekends and holidays.
Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for weekends and public holidays. July and August see steady traffic, but spring and autumn often have availability. The hut sits on OeAV (Austrian Alpine Club) territory, though independent operators manage it. Staff speak German and English. Winter access depends on snow conditions; contact ahead before visiting outside the main hiking season.
