Kührointalm

Kührointalm sits at 1,680m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, accessed via the Kührointhaler valley south of Bad Reichenhall. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from the Hangerer parking area near Bad Reichenhall, climbing steadily through forest then alpine meadow. A shorter 1.5-hour route starts from Bayerischzell if you're coming from the Bavarian side. The hut works as a base for day hikes into surrounding limestone peaks and as a waypoint on multi-day traverses crossing the Salzburg-Bavaria border.
The hut is a simple mountain farm operation with around 30 bed spaces split between dormitory rooms and a few double rooms. The OeAV manages the hut and provides hot meals at lunch and dinner; breakfast is available for early starters. There's no shower but water and basic washing facilities are reliable. The hut operates year-round but is quietest October through April—expect crowds in July and August, particularly weekends. Winter access depends on snow conditions; contact ahead if planning a winter visit.
Book direct with the hut by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for weekends, four weeks for July and August. Solo hikers can usually find space with less notice by arriving early afternoon. The hut has no website; call or visit the OeAV website for contact details. Payment is cash only.
