Kärlinger Haus

Kärlinger Haus sits at 1638m in the Loferer Steinberge, a limestone massif south of Lofer in Salzburg. The hut is reached from the Seebach valley trailhead near Lofer village. Most parties hike 2.5 to 3 hours via the Seebach valley and its steady switchbacks to reach the hut. The route gains 700m steadily but isn't technically difficult. Winter access is unreliable due to avalanche exposure.
The hut holds 40 beds in shared dorms and a few private rooms. It serves a full dinner menu and hearty breakfasts, with packed lunches available for the next day. The hut has showers—a rarity at this elevation in the Austrian Alps. The season runs from Easter through late October, with reduced services in shoulder months. The hut functions as a base for day walks across the Steinberge plateau and is on the route for experienced scramblers tackling the limestone ridges toward Schönbichl.
Book directly by phone with DAV Sektion Berchtesgaden well ahead for July and August weekends. Mid-week slots in June, September, and early October are usually available with 1–2 weeks' notice.
