About

Lärchenhütte sits at 2,481m in the Loferer Steinberge, a limestone range south of the Tyrol-Salzburg border. Reach it from the Saalfelden side via the Vorderkaserbauer Alm (3–4 hours) or from St. Martin am Tennengebirge via the Riedlalm (4–5 hours). Both routes are well-marked but steep and rocky in places. The hut makes an excellent base for scramblers and walkers tackling the ridges of the Loferer range, including ascents of Hochkeil (2,589m) and Große Rettenstein (2,368m).
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (Oesterreichischer Alpenverein, OeAV) and has space for around 60 guests. Meals are hearty and home-cooked; half-board is standard. Hot showers are available. The hut opens mid-June to late September, with the busiest weeks in July and August. Easter and early June weekends also draw crowds. Water can be scarce mid-season, so ask staff about current supply before planning water-heavy activities.
Book directly with the hut—ideally by mid-May for July weekends, or 2–3 weeks ahead for June and September. Contact them by phone or email via the OeAV website. Friday and Saturday nights fill quickly. The hut does not hold online reservations, so a phone call is essential.
