Latschenalm Krispl-Gaißau

Latschenalm sits at 1,500m on the western flank of the Gaißau massif, above the village of Krispl in the Salzburg Lowlands. Reach it via the marked trail from Krispl village (2 hours) or from Gaißau to the east (3.5 hours). The approach climbs steadily through beech forest before opening onto alpine pasture. From here you can continue upward to Gaißau (1,854m) in another 1.5 hours, or traverse east toward the Hochkönig massif. The hut sits on the main ridge trail connecting multiple valleys.
Latschenalm is a traditional alpine farming operation that takes paying guests. The hut offers around 30 beds in simple rooms. Meals focus on hearty local food—expect schnitzel, kasnocken, and fresh bread. The kitchen provides packed lunches for onward hiking. There is no shower, but basic washing facilities are available. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and you should confirm beforehand. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is standard; day visitors are welcome for meals if space allows.
