Spielbergalm (Gollegg)

Spielbergalm sits at 1,308m in the Gollegg valley south of Golling an der Salzach, roughly 40km south of Salzburg. The hut lies on the Salzburg Lungau hiking route and serves as a base for exploring the Tennengebirge foothills. Reach it from Golling (the nearest town) by hiking southeast along the valley floor for about 2–2.5 hours, following marked paths through mixed forest and pasture. The approach is straightforward with minimal elevation gain, making it accessible for families and casual hikers. Trails from the hut lead deeper into the Gollegg valley and to surrounding peaks; most day walks take 3–5 hours round trip.
Spielbergalm is a working alpine dairy farm that also offers meals and basic accommodation to hikers. The hut typically has room for 15–25 guests in simple bedrooms and dormitory spaces. Meals focus on hearty regional food: schnitzel, speck, kasnocken, and fresh dairy products from the farm. The hut has no shower facilities, only wash basins; toilets are basic. It operates seasonally from late May through September, weather-dependent. Arrive by late afternoon if you plan to eat and sleep; the kitchen closes by 8pm.
