About

Mindener Hütte sits at 2,431m on the Hochkönig massif, above the Mühlbach valley near St. Koloman in the Salzburg Alps. Reach it in 3.5–4 hours from Dienten am Pass (1,040m) via the Hochkönig trail, a well-marked summer route with sustained elevation gain. The hut works as a base for traversing the Hochkönig ridge or climbing peaks in the surrounding limestone terrain. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and is generally not advised for standard hikers.
The DAV Sektion Minden runs a small alpine hut with 20–25 beds in shared dormitories. Half-board is standard; expect simple but filling meals. The kitchen caters to dietary needs if you notify the warden (Hüttenwirt) in advance. Water comes from mountain sources. Solar panels and a wood stove provide basic utilities—expect no electricity in rooms and no WiFi. The hut opens late May through September, with peak season June–August. Winter closure is firm.
Book direct with the hut from April onward for summer slots, especially July–August weekends. Contact details are listed through the DAV website (dav.de) under DAV Sektion Minden. July and weekends fill 6–8 weeks ahead. Arrive by early afternoon to secure a meal. The hut accepts cash and bank transfer; confirm payment methods when booking. Solo hikers and small groups are welcome; larger parties should call ahead.
