The Naturfreundehütte Henaralm is a remote self-catering hut at about 1,660 m in the Totes Gebirge, on the Henarwiese meadow high above the Ausseerland in the Salzkammergut. It is owned by the Naturfreunde (Nature Friends) and looked after by a resident hut warden. The setting is genuinely wild: there is no road, no mains electricity and no mobile coverage, so the hut closes in winter because of its exposed position and typically opens only from around mid-May until November. Sleeping is simple, with 13 places in multi-bed rooms — eight downstairs and five upstairs — and advance reservation is required. As a Selbstversorgerhütte it has no restaurant service; instead guests cook for themselves on a wood-burning stove and a gas cooker, using the equipped kitchen, an electric cool box and basics such as salt, sugar, tea and spices, with an indoor shower and an outdoor solar shower available. Reaching the Henaralm is a serious mountain undertaking of roughly four to five hours on marked trails — for example from Grundlsee (Gößl) on path 235, from Altaussee, or from Ebensee via the Offensee — making it a peaceful base for walkers seeking solitude.
