Wildenseehütte

Wildenseehütte sits at 1525m on the eastern shore of Wildenalpsee, in the Salzkammergut region south of Bad Ischl. Reach it from the Sarstein carpark (near Ebensee) in 2.5 hours following marked trails through mixed forest and Alpine meadow. The route gains 700m steadily but never steepens. From Bad Goisern on the Traun valley floor, allow 3–3.5 hours. The hut serves as a base for ridge traverses into the Totes Gebirge and for circuits around Wildenalpsee itself.
The OeAV Sektion Ausseerland manages the hut. It holds 80 beds across private rooms and dormitories. The kitchen serves three meals daily; half-board is standard. Water comes from the lake and a spring. A small shop stocks basics. The hut stays open year-round but staffing is lighter November–March; ring ahead in winter. Solar panels and a small hydro setup power the facility. Mobile signal is unreliable.
Book directly with the hut for July and August—these months fill 6–8 weeks ahead, especially weekends. June, September and early October have better availability. The hut accepts cash and bank transfer; email or phone reservations only. Winter visits require advance notice to confirm heating and food availability. Arrive before 18:00 to guarantee a hot meal.
