About

The Rinnerhütte sits at 1,473m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, 15km south of Salzburg near the German border. Reach it from the village of Anif by hiking 2.5 hours up the Rinntal valley. The approach is steady and well-marked, gaining 600m through forest. This is the direct route and the most practical for day visitors. The hut also connects to longer ridge walks heading south toward the Hochstaufen and across toward the Lattengebirge.
The hut offers 70 beds in mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. The kitchen serves straightforward Austrian fare: Schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn, and hearty soups. Half-board is standard and worth taking. The hut operates year-round, though conditions above 1,400m can be treacherous in winter; check current snow stability before ascending. The building is managed by the Salzburg section of the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). Showers are available for a small fee.
Book 4-6 weeks ahead for weekends in July and August. Contact the hut directly by phone or email to check availability. Solo hikers and families have few problems finding space outside peak season. The hut fills quickly on long weekends and public holidays. Winter ascents require mountaineering experience and proper gear; phone ahead to confirm staffing.
